Structure: Subject + be (am/is/are/was/were/will be) + used to + noun/pronoun/gerund (verb-ing)
Meaning: To be familiar with or accustomed to something (it's not new or strange anymore)
Different from 'used to + infinitive': 'Be used to' = accustomed to (present), 'Used to' = past habits (no longer true)
Always use verb-ing after 'be used to': I am used to working (NOT 'to work')
Can use with nouns: She is used to the noise. They are used to cold weather.
Related form: 'Get used to' = become accustomed to (process of adaptation)

Answers & Explanations

Correct: A - am used to
Explanation: "I live in London now" indicates present tense. "Now I am used to" shows current familiarity with city life.
Correct: B - wasn't used to
Explanation: "When I started my new job" indicates past time. The negative form "wasn't used to" shows lack of familiarity in the past.
Correct: C - will be used to
Explanation: "After a few weeks" indicates future time. "You will be used to" predicts future familiarity.
Correct: isn't used to living
Explanation: Present negative tense. After 'be used to' we need the gerund (verb-ing): "living."
Correct: wasn't used to the food
Explanation: Past negative tense. We can use 'be used to + noun': "the food" (no verb-ing needed here).
Correct: is used to dealing with
Explanation: Present tense (result of past experience). After 10 years, he is now accustomed to it. Note: "dealing with" is the gerund form.
Correct: I am used to working under pressure.
Explanation: "I find it easy" means it's not difficult anymore = accustomed to. Present tense + verb-ing after 'be used to'.
Correct: At first, the children weren't used to having a new teacher, but now they are.
Explanation: "Weren't familiar with" = weren't accustomed to. Past negative + verb-ing. "Now they are" = now they are used to.
Correct: B - I am used to waking up early.
Explanation: After 'be used to' we must use verb-ing (gerund). Option A uses infinitive (wrong). Option C misses the 'be' verb.
Correct: A - is used to
Explanation: "After three years" shows she is now accustomed to it. Present tense. "Used to" alone would be wrong (that's for past habits). "Gets used to" would mean she's still adapting.
Correct: wasn't used to
Explanation: "When I first tried it" indicates past. Negative form because at first she wasn't accustomed to it. Note: This could also be "didn't like" but the exercise focuses on 'be used to'.
Correct: Any grammatically correct sentence using 'be used to + verb-ing' in present tense.
Example: "My sister is used to studying late at night." Must include: subject + am/is/are + used to + verb-ing.
